McMichael Receives RPAC Support..
McMichael Campaign for New Haven’s 5th District Receives RPAC Support The UPSTAR RPAC Trustees recently completed their candidate selection process in an effort to determine which local candidates would receive UPSTAR support for the 2011 general election. The process, which included a questionnaire followed by an in-person interview, was extremely methodical and consistent in order to be fair to all candidates under consideration—incumbents and challengers alike. The trustees evaluated the candidates based on their positions on issues important to REALTORS® including the business of real estate and private property rights. , they also considered the candidate’s willingness to discuss issues and compromise where possible. New Haven Recipients.... City Council District 5, New Haven – Steve McMichael
Fellow New Haven 5th District Residents,
Fellow New Haven 5th District Residents, I feel that Steve McMichael has made the commitment to run for elected office seeking to serve the residents as a City Council Representative for the 5th District in New Haven. I believe that Steve has the vision of progress, leadership ability, and integrity that this position requires. In order for New Haven to continue to grow; we need City Council representatives to be leaders – leaders of progress; leaders who see challenges as opportunities, leaders who realize that cities need to grow or they simply die a long, slow, and painful death. Steve is just the kind of leader we need! Steve has been a long time friend and volunteer for Woodfield. He has served as either President or Vice President since the founding of the neighborhood association. I would ask that you please consider voting for Steve on November 8th. He is just the kind of leader that New Haven needs to keep moving forward in a positive direction. I have spoken with Steve about the plans for not only New Haven but the 5th district in particular and am very excited about the things he is planning. If Steve does only half for our fair city of what he has done for our neighborhood New Haven will be a far better place to live! I hope that you will join me on November 8th with your support in electing Steve to become our new 5th District Representative on City Council. Thank you. Steve Kennedy POSTED: 10/18/11 at 5:34 pm. New Haven City Council election 2011
Steve McMichael’s enthusiasm and affection for New Haven and his ideas for enhancing a vibrant, well-educated, healthy, safe, beautiful community are such a part of his life that they are evident in every conversation with him, demonstrated long before he became a candidate to represent the citizens of New Haven in the City Council’s 5th District. As the owner of a small real estate business, Steve knows the challenges of growing a business; he sees the 5th District as a critical gateway to New Haven, poised for growth and in need of leadership to help guide sustainable development. As a neighborhood leader and community volunteer in housing and parks – issues at the core of strong quality of life and economic vitality – Steve brings an inquisitive, broadly-informed, thoughtful approach to projects. Most refreshing is Steve’s nonpartisan, collaborative style of problem-solving, a model for civic and political life. Please vote on November 8th. If I lived within New Haven’s 5th District, I would vote for Steve McMichael. Sincerely, Michelle Briggs Wedaman Fort Wayne POSTED: 10/17/11 at 4:59 pm. FILED UNDER: Opinions NewHavenBulletin.com
NH 5th District
New Haven City Council 5 th District Candidate Steve McMichael is the owner of a Real Estate business in New Haven . He sees many of the infrastructure problems first hand, more so than an average citizen does. He wants to address these problems with the Mayor and the problems created by previous administrations not doing their job in keeping our city’s sewers, streets, etc. in good repair. He also sees economic growth as an issue of high priority on the City’s agenda. With the completion of the Maplecrest Rd extension, Steve can put his real estate experience and contacts to good use by opening doors to capitalize on the new link to Interstate 469. His knowledge of resources for businesses will be a great help in bringing new types of companies to open in New Haven . He is also a very creative problem solver. His ideas are unique, innovative and practical and would be a refreshing change for the 5th District City Council Seat. Please vote on November 8th and please vote for Steve McMichael for 5th District Councilman for New Haven . Marcia Geller POSTED: 10/06/11 at 9:49 pm. FILED UNDER: Opinions NewHavenBulletin.com

Name: Steven S McMichael Steven S McMichael E-mail: Steve@SteveMcMichael.com Web URL: SteveMcMichael.com Age: 45 Office: New Haven City Council, 5th District Party: Democrat Education: Bishop Luers - Graduated IPFW - Attended IVy Tech - Attended Work: Realtor/Broker Years lived in NE Ind: 37 Issue #1: Economic Growth: New Haven’s Fifth District is the gateway to New Haven from most of Fort Wayne, and is the first, and often times lasting, impression of New Haven. Opportunity abounds for the fifth district; we are at the crossroads of progress, both literally and figuratively, with the long anticipated Maplecrest Road extension. As a strong advocate for the 5th District I will work hard to promote economic growth in the district. There are great opportunities ahead for the district, but opportunities only materialize thru effective leadership and hard work. I will put my experience as a Realtor and Small Business Owner to work with City/County/Regional Economic development officials,Builders, Developers and Employers to capitalize on our new link to north Fort Wayne. The Adams Center/Maplecrest Road will connect Interstate 469 from North (Exit 29) to South (Exit 13). The potential is there for this to be a true Power Corridor creating exciting opportunities for the 5th District and all of New Haven. Issue #2: Infrastructure: Much progress has been made over the past 12 years on New Haven’s infrastructure. Years of neglect and lack of planning prior to 2000 have caused a large financial burden on the citizens of New Haven. We must make sure that we never let the deficit of infrastructure grow. In the 1970s, there was a long-running commercial slogan: “You can pay me now or pay me later.” referring to paying a couple of bucks for an oil filter now compared to hundreds or thousands later. We must take care of the infrastructure as best we can when problems arise, this can be accomplished while using conservative financial stewardship. We cannot afford to say no while the problems are manageable, only waiting for a larger problem and bill. Communities either grow or die; we must choose to grow! Issue #3: New Haven has a great story to tell, we are the American Small Midwest City. From our wonderfully revitalized Broadway corridor to our heritage as a transportation hub, New Haven is home to great people, great history and great companies! The fifth district needs a strong leader and advocate to advance the interests of both citizens and businesses. Working with other neighborhood leaders we will identify the problems and opportunities in the fifth district. We must make the most of opportunity! Previous political experience: Elected Office: None. I have however served on Board of Directors of area neighborhood associations for 14 years. Qualifications for this office: As a small business owner, dedicated community volunteer and neighborhood leader, I have had the opportunity to work with many different groups to effect change, and to make a difference. I have been an advocate for homeowners and home buyers. As a member of City Council, I will be an advocate for BOTH the citizens and businesses of the district. Hope to accomplish if elected: My vision is for a New Haven that sees continued growth using sound financial stewardship. I hope to capitalize on the once-in-a-generation opportunity of the Maplecrest/Adams Center Road project. Creating investments by businesses, Builders, Developers and Residents. New Jobs, New City Revenue and Enhanced Pride in our community. Most relevant issue to voters: As a Realtor/Community Volunteer and neighborhood leader, I feel that the current status of East Allen County Schools and education in general is the largest issue. The health of our schools is critical to our future, while City Council currently has no legal authority over the school board, we need to use our voice to make sure that New Haven has blue-chip schools for our students, today and tomorrow. How to increase public's confidence in government: Provide common sense, well thought positions while asking for various viewpoints. Also to understand that sometimes changing your mind on an issue is a sign of strength, not a weakness. We can all lead better by being better informed. RELATED STORIES AND COMMENTARY
Steve McMichael
Why are you running? I love New Haven and I love to tell the story of our great city. The story of New Haven is a great one, small town charm with all the conveniences of living next to a larger city. New Haven is a growing, caring community, strong community. New Haven residents mostly are Bulldog Proud, hardworkers and kind and caring people. We are the stereotypical Midwest America Small City… Progress is being made, and New Haven is growing! As a Realtor, I have introduced New Haven to many clients, Some of which have become proud New Haven residents themselves! If New Haven is going to continue to grow Quality of Life issues are essential. New Haven’s Fifth District is the gateway to New Haven from most of Fort Wayne, and is the first, and often times lasting, impression of New Haven. Opportunity abounds for the fifth district, we are at the crossroads of progress, both literally and figuratively with the long anticipated Maplecrest Road Extension. I have a strong belief that leaders work to find ways of making the best of challenges, not by simply saying “NO”. I feel that I have the Vision of Progress, Desire and Leadership abilities to effectively represent the citizens of the 5th District. What do you think is the most important issue facing the city in the next two years? There are 2 equally important issues facing the New Haven Community and they are somewhat tied together. 1.) Education: whether deserving or not New Haven schools have acquired a reputation with some in the community as being substandard, this coupled with the upcoming potential referendums for financing improvements at Woodlan, Heritage and New Haven and my concerns that the current funding plans of the East Allen administration will pit community vs. community have created somewhat of a cloud over New Haven’s future. 2)Economic Growth: without a resolution of the education issue the growth of New Haven will be continued to be hindered. In order to be sustainable in the current era of the budget triple whammy that municipalities like New Haven are facing (Property Tax Caps, Lower Assessed Values, and less COIT/Cedit Revenues) we need to grow our tax base both thru residential and commercial properties. As long as the educational cloud hangs over New Haven growth will be even harder to achieve. How do you differ from the other candidates in this race? As a Realtor, small business owner, community volunteer and neighborhood leader I possess the experience and skill set to provide leadership and present a Voice of Progress for the fifth district. I intend to continue to reach out to other community leaders and be an advocate for the citizens and be someone to re present the ideas that New Haven citizens present to me. If elected, what would be your primary goal for the next year? My primary goal is to help capitalize on the opportunity That abounds for the fifth district and all of New Haven, with the long anticipated Maplecrest Road Extension. Creating investments by Businesses, Builders, Developers and Residents. New Jobs, New City Revenue and Enhanced Pride in our community. Political experience and dates: First Time Running for Political Office Educational background: Attended IPFW and IvyTech, Graduate Bishop Luers High School 1984, received various professional designations and certifications.
